Green is Sexy!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Have you noticed??…. there seems to be a sudden urgency to clean up our environment and get people more green conscious. How awesome!!! Our environment is getting her well-deserved air time. I got an urgent sms from Mich Cory  (Finalist Miss Earth SA 2009) to tune into Oprah this evening. Oprah’s  message this evening was so congruent with ours. Her key message focused on “It’s easy being Green” and “by being green, you save money” and “Saving money is Sexy” particularly in these tough economic times.

Thank you Oprah for shining the green light!!

catherineTo Catherine and the Miss Earth Organisation:-

The Miss Earth Organisation is tireless in our quest to create awareness of all things environmental. It’s been a month since my crowning and it feels as though the month has flown by. My schedule is full of special  projects, events, guest appearances, photo shoots and interviews.

Working with Catherine and our Miss Earth Team on all the INCREDIBLE projects that we are currently involved with and meeting all the amazing people that we meet on a daily basis is awe-inspiring.  My life is richer for all these experiences.  As much as I impart of myself, I learn and grow with every experience, everyday.

I can truly say that I am loving every minute of my reign and will continue to assure you of my greenest and best intentions always!

To all my supporters, thank you all for your continued support and well wishes on my blog. I enjoy your messages and look forward to hearing from you.

Green Peace and Love

The SA Guide Dogs’ Winter Ball
I love Edith Venter. She really inspires me with all the amazing charity work that she does and the annual SA Guide Dogs’ Winter Ball hosted by Edith was no exception. This high-profile event took place at the Montecasino Ballroom last Saturday to raise funds for the SA Guide Dogs Association (SAGA). My team and I were invited as guests in support of the event.
I have to say, I felt as though I had the best responsibility for the evening. I got to showcase and carry Labrador puppies around the room. How adorable is that! Aaawww, I wish that you could have seen these pups, they were heart-stealers.
Of cos, attending a ball requires an extra special dress. That’s where I can always rely on Werner Dey to make me look fabulously glamorous for special events like these. My dress was custom-made for the event by Werner and was absolutely exquisite. Big hug to Werner! xox
What a memorable evening!  The event was well supported and the evening was a great success.

durbanjulyVodacom Durban July 2009

This year the focus of the DBN July was not just about Glamour, Fashion and Horse Racing. The Miss Earth Organisation ensured that we had a platform to  spread the GREEN word.
I made guest appearances in a few marquees at the event. The curiosity around my title as Miss Earth SA and the work that we do was overwhelming. No matter how many times I’m asked about my title and what we stand for, it’s always exciting to explain, because people are genuinely fascinated that a beauty pageant is founded on such a remarkable cause.

Cherise and I made a guest appearance at the Sharks Marquee in support of the Nicolas Ray Foundation. Once a Greenie always a Greenie, Michelle Olivier was there and it was so good to see her again. We handed out prizes together and Cherise showcased a dress that was auctioned for charity.

I had a great time except my feet are still recovering. If you’ve ever been to the VDJ you will understand the amount of walking that you do. Trust me, stiletto’s on grass requires a special skill. So I’m still apologizing to my feet, but as I say, if your heart is in the right place you can do anything and you can do it in stiletto’s!
