Turning Trash into Treasure

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

fashionTurning Trash into Treasure was the theme of King David Linkfield’s Enviro Committee Fashion Show last week.

Strutting the catwalk were some of South Africa’s top designers like Norman Callan, Craig Jacobs, Thandi of Fashion Studio Collections and some young upcoming designers like Darren Lurie of Daluzion. Our Miss Earth Ambassador Ella Bella was the MC along with Irvan Damon and Gabriella Alberoni of Carbon d’Afreeque, who accersorised the show with recycled PVC billboard bags. The Enviro Committe will be planting trees during the year with the Miss Earth South Africa Team - watch this space!!

stationaryThe Miss Earth South Africa in association with Consol have been rolling out a national stationery drive. Stationery was collected from both corporates and private individuals over the past two months. Newsclip Media Monitoring, Legacy Hotels, Proudly SA, SA Garden Magazine, Nadene Devraj, Adilia Teixeira Columbine Crossing, CEF and Imperial Toyota assisted in the collections. Stationery was provided for all the learners at a hand over last week. This is one of the initiatives adopted schools. Last year saw the launch of the Green Legacy campaign happen at Elethu Themba too. 100 trees were planted at the school with guests and celebrity faces. Many more initiatives are planned for this school as the year rolls out.

Stationery Drive!

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

stationerydriveDear Friends of the Miss Earth South Africa

As you might have heard we are doing our annual Stationery Drive and with your contributions over the last few weeks, we have managed to collect stationery for the entire Grade Four year at Elethu Themba Combined. To those who have contributed to make the 2010 Stationery Drive happen, a very big heartfelt THANK YOU!!!

We will be putting stationery packs together for each child equipping them to start the new school year in the correct manner… The Miss Earth South Africa in association with Consol would like to deliver a glass jar for the collections.  The amount of benefiting learners depends on the amount collected, so we need Your Stationery!!

The ear marked schools are frightfully underprivileged, and learners share pencils among themselves because they simply do not have their own. Rulers, colour pencils, erasers, highlighters and a scissors are a luxury - We want them to start their year on a positive note.

Have a look through your desk, study at home - look for old pens, pencils, broken rulers…Think of it as a Summer Stationery Clean Out!!! We always get new pens and pencils… but do we ever clean out? Ask your children, encourage others in the office to help fill the Glass Jar.

If you are willing to help – Please let the Miss Earth South Africa Office know, so that a Glass Stationery Jar can be delivered to your office or picked up from ours …
