Save the Frogs Day, 30 April 2010

froggieIn an effort to raise awareness of the plight of amphibians, the scientific community has declared Friday April 30th, 2010 the 2nd Annual ‘Save The Frogs Day’. On this day we encourage the appreciation and celebration of amphibians by people from all walks of life.

Please get involved and help spread the word. Only a small proportion of our public is aware that frogs are disappearing, and amphibian conservation efforts will not be successful with an uninformed public. Our goal is to make the amphibian extinction crisis common knowledge by Save The Frogs Day: help make it happen!

We will be hosting educational programmes – watch out for us in your community creating awareness of frogs and the amphibian crisis

Celebrating “Save the Frogs Day” was a HIT! I visited Crawford College with Jessica, Mapudi, Tamerin and Tanya and they were so responsive, enthusiastic and fun to work with :)

We had a mini quiz for prizes towards the end of our visit and we asked the teachers to name one species of frog that is endangered. The teachers were tongue- tied… and the CHILDREN had to whisper the answer into their ears!!
Sobering thought: … NEVER underestimate 8 year olds!!!

I took the initiative to make 33 frog masks to take photos with the little ones, also 66 origami frogs including 66 colour in “save the frogs”. i also interacted with the children, informing them, that I am a fairy from Miss Earth and I let them know about all the frogs in the world and why we need to save them. we went through steps of how we can save them and at the end i handed to each child a chocolate. it was alot of fun and very educational for all the children. The school has committed to add a pond in the school yard, for the frogs.

Thank you for this opportunity. it was magical. Rizelle.

Everything went smoothly this morning at our SAVE THE FROG DAY…The kids were fantastic to work with, we all had a wonderful time, & managed to deliver an important message at the same time!…so to put it in a nut shell…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!:)…heehee.

I would like to thank Jenny Bower, from the school, who was an amazing help & was very happy to have us there today.

We all helped make little frog cookies for each child, which went down very well.Kelly got her boyfriend to dress up in a giant frog outfit and the kids loved it!, they were screaming with excitement and Alex too pics on her camera which she will email to you.

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to go into school and work so closely with the kids. We had a ball

    Have a wonderful day, Dom:)
