“When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts”- Dalai Lama
On the 16th of June, Youth Day, I spent the morning at Floradale Nursery picking out 7 beautiful indigenous trees to be taken to Molefe Primary School in New Brighton. Mr Rasi, the principal at Molefe, wished to hold a tree planting session with the learners as part of an environmental project and was in need of some indigenous trees to be planted around the school. Thank you to Floradale Nursery for the trees and the compost!
The trees that I delivered to Mr Rasi on the 16th included Spekboom, Wild Olive Trees and White Stinkwood Trees. I made some laminated posters for the classrooms at Molefe Primary on the importance of trees and on why spekboom is known as the wonder tree (which can be shown to the learners when they plant the Spekboom). These posters can be incorporated into their environmental project and tree planting.
Happy tree planting to Mr Rasi and the learners of Molefe! I know I have left the trees in very good ‘green’ hands!
