It’s crazy how time flies when one is having fun. It seems like just yesterday that I was nervously submitting my Miss Earth SA 2017 application form online. At the onset, I had no idea just how much my life would change from being a part of such an amazing program. The past few months have been nothing short of phenomenal and I have pushed my personal boundaries further than I could ever imagine.
My journey began in April of 2017 and during this time I have been able to conduct various activities aimed at empowering the community as well as creating awareness within the community with regards to sustainable living, with a focus on the #WasteStopsWithMe campaign. These activities include tree planting, conducting environmentally orientated discussions, facilitating recycling projects, taking part in community cleanups, participating in a career day at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and even attending the Climate Diplomacy Event. Each activity has made such a significant impact on me and has allowed me to grow in ways that I could have never predicted beforehand.
One encounter that stands out for me was having the privilege of meeting the mayor of Tshwane – Mr Solly Msimanga at the 2017 Eco Logic Awards. I had never imagined that I would be able to interact so freely with someone of such high esteem, but thanks to Miss Earth I was able to do just that. He was even kind (cool) enough to take a selfie with me !
I am well aware that the journey ahead will be filled with hard work, focus and dedication and I am extremely excited to take this challenge head on.. It is a true blessing to be able to meet and engage with so many young amazing women from across South Africa, who are all passionate about making a change. Being a part of Miss Earth 2017 has been a truly remarkable experience, one that I will forever be grateful for.
