It is known that every year on the 18th of July we devote 67 minutes to making a difference – one minute for every year of Mandela’s public service ; be it to a stranger, the environment, family etc.. it does not matter, the point is to do something good.
For my Mandela day 2017 I partnered with the Department of Water and Sanitation South Africa in their campaign #ClearRiver. This campaign promotes a healthy environment. During the month of July, the Department of Water and Sanitation clear up rivers.
We were at Olievenhoutbosch in Samrand cleaning up the river. Everyone that knows me, knows I am a huge fan of water; it really saddened me to see all that litter in the water. Why do we do such things? Why do we put our lives at risk by harbouring rats and all sorts of diseases which could be found in an environment full of litter. We are really too quick to forget that there is only one planet earth, if we do not take care of it, we are only robbing the future generations from having a clean, healthy home.
I cannot stress enough how we are not doing anyone a favour by cleaning up after ourselves. Our actions determine our future; I hope you’ll make the right choice today.
