Pufaro stream cleaning and road show

On Saturday (20 July 2013) I attended a road show organised by DSW(Durban Solid Waste), ADAMS Crime prevention unit and the Ethekwini municipality.

It was a wonderful experience to be involved in such an initiative in my area. I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to speak on behalf of the Miss Earth SA organisation on our greening initiatives and how we can reduce, reuse and recycle.

We were also joined by some of the surrounding schools and community members. There was a presentation done by different departments on the day and community members were involved in the discussion. They were given an opportunity to share their experiences and grievances directly to the people responsible.

When that was done, we made our way to the “ nature trail” to do our clean up and our tree planting. I joined the children and they told me stories as we walked about how clean the stream and area used to be. It was such a good feeling to know that you are greening little hearts and minds. It all starts with them.
