On the 22nd May I visited Steve Tswete High School in Olievenhoutbosch, to speak to the Grade 8-12 on the Environmental awareness.

“If you can’t clean your surrounding, then don’t make it dirty.”- The Fresh Quotes

A freezing Monday morning 8am assembly starts with over a thousand learners and teachers all ready and singing, Mr Mandla Mtimunye, the school Principal, introduced me to them and they were quite excited to hear about the Environment.

“What is the Environment?” I asked and there was silence. The Science teacher put a disappointed face as she expected her Matric 2017 class to answer.

Some of the topics discussed were:
1. The importance of the environment
2. How to take care of the environment,
3. 3R’s; Reduce, Recycle and Re-use.

“The Environment is in us, not outside of us. The trees are our lungs, the rivers our bloodstream. We are all interconnected, and what you do to the environment, ultimately you do to yourself” – Ian Somerhalder

The learners were very responsive to the questions I asked and were coming up with cool ideas of looking after the environment.
